  Northville, USA resident, Richa Gangopadhyay accomplished a lot in a short span of less than two years since she was crowned Miss India USA in New Jersey in Dec 2007. She recently debuted as the lead actress in her first Telugu film, ‘Leader’ which has hit the screens on Feb 19, 2010.

The vibrant, attractive and determined Richa decided upon near-fulfillment of her Miss India USA title in the year 2008, that she was going to move to India to explore the Indian film and fashion industry. Friends and family encouraged her and in Sep 2008, Richa took the big leap of faith of relocating to Mumbai to pursue the renowned acting school, ‘Actor Prepares’ of Bollywood veteran, Anupam Kher. She graduated with a diploma in acting from Actor Prepares and got her professional portfolio done by one of India’s top fashion photographers. From the day her portfolio was released in March 2009, Richa has been swamped with offers of fashion ads for billboards of national brand campaigns and TV commercials. She hopped three cities over a course of ten days doing fashion ad shoots and on day ten….March 20, 2008 which also happened to be her birthday, she successfully landed the coveted female lead role in the upcoming Tollywood film, called ‘Leader’ under the direction of Sekhar Kammula who nationally is known as a critically acclaimed director.

While Richa’s ‘Dabur Vatika Almond Hair Oil’ TV commercial with Bollywood actress Preity Zinta was airing on Sony TV channels all over India, and her billboards for Peter England People, Malabar Gold and Kalaniketan adorned large posh malls and stores in Hyderabad, Bangalore, Delhi and other cities, Richa embarked on her first movie venture in April 2009. Leader has been produced under the well-known AVM Productions which has introduced Debutant hero Rana as the ‘Leader’ with Richa as Co-star. Rana is the grandson of a movie moghul, Rama Naidu, who earned a prestigious place in the Guinness Book of World Records for producing the highest number of films spanning 3 decades in 9 languages. Richa portrays Rana’s lady love in the movie.

Vidya Balan (born January 1, 1978 in Palakkad, Kerala, India) is an Indian actress based in Mumbai, India
.
EARLY LIFE:
Although born in Palakkad to Tamil Iyer parents in Kerala, Vidya Balan grew up in Mumbai and attended St. Anthony’s Girls High School, St. Xavier’s College, Bombay and later the University of Mumbai. She graduated from college with a Sociology degree. She speaks several languages including Tamil, Malayalam, English, Hindi, and Bengali.

CAREER:
Vidya Balan, then Vidya Iyer, was signed to appear in the Malayalam film “Chakram”, which was shelved. She was then signed in Tamil by Lingusamy for his Run, but for reasons undisclosed, she was dropped after a first schedule and replaced by Meera Jasmine. In the jinx driven industry Vidya was dropped from her second Tamil movie “Manasellam” opposite to Srikanth, on the grounds of ‘non-performance’ and replaced by Trisha Krishnan.
She then turned to television advertising. From 1998 onwards, she appeared in numerous television ads, many of which were directed by Pradeep Sarkar. She also took supporting roles in music videos, appearing with singers and bands such as Euphoria, Shubha Mudgal, and Pankaj Udhas, and acted in Hindi soap operas like Hum Paanch. She portrayed the role of Radhika Mathur in few episodes of season 1 of “Hum Paanch” (sitcom) which was first aired in 1995. Since she is obviously older than 13 in these episodes, her repeated claims to have been born in 1982 is believed to be false.

In 2005, she finally made her appearance on the big screen, in two movies. She appeared in a Bengali film, “Bhalo Theko”, for which she won the Best Actress Anand Lok Puraskar award in Kolkata. Also in 2005, Balan made her Hindi film debut in “Parineeta”. The film was very successful at the box office.
After the success of Parineeta the same producer who dropped Vidya Balan from Manasellam saying that she was not emoting properly & non photogenic, was after her to sign her opposite to none other than Kamal Hassan for Dasavatharam. But Vidya Balan rejected the offer and Asin Thottumkal was signed instead.
In 2006 she appeared opposite Sanjay Dutt in the film “Lage Raho Munna Bhai”. The movie was a major hit within India and was ranked #1 on the box office for eight weeks after its release. Telugu Superstar Chiranjeevi who is enacting the remake of Lage Raho Munnabhai desperately wanted to sign Vidya Balan and the producer even offered her a remuneration of Rs. 1 crore, but Vidya Balan was not tempted to return South again.

Vidya was recently seen in a supporting role in Mani Ratnam’s Guru; she played a woman with a physical disability and she played a woman with amnesia in the multi-starrer “Salaam-e-Ishq: A Tribute To Love”. Her latest release is “Eklavya: The Royal Guard” which got mixed reviews.
Vidya’s next release will be Priyadarshan’s version of malayalam hit “Manichitrathazhu” that roughly translates to “magic lock”. The movie is about the mysteries of superstitions, supernatural power and split personality. Vidya essays the role immortalised by Shobana, who had bagged the Best Actress Award in 1990. Priyadarshan worked in the second unit of the original as a tribute to his master Fazil. Priyadarshan thought that Vidya Balan is a good dancer as she was a Palakkad Brahmin. He was shocked to discover that the actress has two left feet. But Vidya took it as a challenge and supposed to have practised hard for the crucial dance sequence in the climax where the Ganga transforms into the dancer Nagavalli by personality disorder.

She also topped Rediff's list of the ‘Best Bollywood Actresses Ever’, on Women's International Day, in 2007.
 
Personal Life
Madhuri Dixit Nene was born as ‘Madhuri Shankar Dixit’ on 15th May 1967, in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She is one of the four children of Shankar Dixit and Snehlata Dixit, of a Marathi Chitpavan Brahmin family. After completing her graduation, Madhuri attended Parle College and completed her Bachelors Degree in Microbiology. While studying, she also trained as a Kathak dancer. Though she wanted to be a micro-biologist, life took a different turn and she ended up as one of the most successful actresses in Bollywood.

Madhuri Dixit married Dr Sriram Madhav Nene, an Indian doctor who resides in USA, in the year 1999. Sriram is an UCLA-trained cardiovascular surgeon who practices in Denver and belongs to a Marathi Konkanastha Brahmin family. The couple has two sons Arin (born March 2003) and Ryan (born March 2005). Presently, Madhuri resides in Denver (Colorado, USA), along with her husband and kids.
 
Film Career
Madhuri Dixit started her career in 1984, with the film ’Abodh’, offered to her by Rajshri Productions. The film failed to create any ripples at the box office and was forgotten soon. Thereafter, she was seen in a number of unnoticeable films, like Awara Baap and Swati. It was only in 1986 that she was discovered by Subhash Ghai, who gave her a small dance sequence in ‘Karma'. Though the dance sequence was edited out in the final cut, Ghai promised to give Madhuri better roles in the future.

He also kept a condition, that Madhuri will stop doing tiny roles in insignificant films. She agreed and Ghai ended up giving Madhuri, first, ‘Uttar Dakshin', and then, a proper launch in ‘Ram Lakhan' (1988). However, before Ram Lakhan could make it to the box office, Madhuri’s ‘Tezaab’ hit the theaters. Her dance sequence in the film, ‘Ek, do, teen’ took the nation by storm and established Madhuri in the top league of actresses. ‘Tezaab’ went on to complete a golden jubilee and was one of the biggest hits of the year.
 
Madhuri’s superb performance in ‘Tezaab’ and ‘Ram Lakhan’ was followed by her excellent act in ‘Dil’ (1990). The film not only got her the first Filmfare Award of her career, for Best Actress’, but also established a rapport with Indra Kumar. In the coming years, she starred in two hit films by Kumar, ‘Beta’ (1991) and ‘Raja’ (1995). The first half of 1990s saw Madhuri delivering a hit almost every year. This included films like Saajan (1991), Beta (1992), Khalnayak (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Koun (1994) and Raja (1995).

In 1996, she was seen in ‘Prem Granth’, a film that bombed at the box office, but managed to win her critical acclaim. She starred in a number of films the same year, but none of them were successful. Just when critics were planning to write her off, ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ (1997) happened. The film was not only a blockbuster, but also got her Filmfare Award for ‘Best Actress’. The same year, she was also seen in Prakash Jha's 'Mrityudand', a film that established her as a serious actor and won her Best Actress awards at the Star Screen Awards & Sansui Awards.
 
The next major film for Madhuri Dixit came in 2000, Pukar, which also bagged her IIFA Best Actress Award. The same year, she was seen in Gaja Gamini (2000), made by M.F. Hussain, who considers Madhuri as his muse and the embodiment of womanhood. The film saw her representing the various forms and manifestations of womanhood. Though it was not a commercial success, the film did get her critical acclaim. The year 2002 saw Madhuri starring in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Devdas’.

The film was also featured at the Cannes Film Festival and won Madhuri Filmfare Award as well as Star Screen Best Award, for Supporting Actress. Thereafter, she took a brief sabbatical from movies, to concentrate on her family. She was seen on-screen in 2006, after a gap of four years, performing on the songs of Devdas, for Filmfare Awards. The sabbatical came to an end in 2007, when her film ‘Aaja Nachle’ was released. Though it did not turn a box office hit, the film definitely got Madhuri rave reviews.
